I Have An Etsy Shop!

That's right! I opened an etsy shop! You might remember that Maggie & I had an online store for a while, but we decided to close it. For a while now, I've been thinking/praying about opening one again, and decided to go for it! I've been having fun with it, and hope you like what you see too!

You may notice that I've added a few things to my blog that are shop related. There's the "E" button in my social media icons that'll take you to my shop. There's also a new tab up above called "Why 'Bliss'?" that explains why I chose Bliss for the name. Be sure to go read that!

If you're on FB, go like Bliss Boutique to be entered in a giveaway! If you share Bliss Boutique on FB you'll receive another entry!

While you're at it you might as well like It's A Wonderful Life on FB too! :)

Frumpy to Feminine // Denim Skirt

{I love a good rainy day! It reminds me of living on Whidbey Island!}

Everyone has articles of clothing that they would consider 'staples' in their wardrobe. Mine would definitely have to be a denim skirt. They are so versatile; they can be dressed up or down.

Modest and classy denim skirts can be hard to come by. When I find one that I like, it's worth it to me to fork out the money for the price tag that goes with it. I'm still on the lookout for a non-frumpy long denim skirt...those seem harder to find.

Frumpy to Feminine // Navy & Nude

I've decided to add a new feature to my blog -- outfit posts. Here are my thoughts...

Yes, there are plenty of others out there posting pictures of their outfits, but it's not always my style. We are all so unique and have different senses of style. I enjoy getting ideas from others, and so I thought maybe posting some of my outfits could inspire you!

I also hope to not only encourage you to dress modestly, but femininely! Some of the outfits I see that are labeled 'modest' are kind of frumpy to me. Dressing modestly can be a challenge sometimes, but it doesn't mean you have to be frumpy. Let's throw out the potato sacks and wear clothes that are flattering and feminine! God specifically designed you to be a beautiful woman -- be proud of that! With so much gender confusion these days, I hope there's never any question by the way I dress, act, and present myself that I'm a lady!

I'm going to warn you, the pictures are probably going to be a little awkward until I get the hang of it. Haha! I decided to go ahead and throw in some out-takes just to keep it real. It was awkward enough trying to figure out how to pose, so why not add the others. :)

This is what I wore for Resurrection Sunday. A classic pencil skirt is one of my go to Sunday staples, and at the suggestion of a friend I bought a navy blue one recently which I love! I especially love the look of nude pumps with a navy skirt. I knew immediately that I wanted to pair the two of them together, and I love the result.

With spring here and summer quickly approaching, I wanted to give my cardigans a break and start wearing warm weather friendly tops. I stepped outside of my 'box' and purchased a few tops that look more polished when tucked in, and am liking the look and feel of sophistication it brings.

Determining God's Will

You hear of a need. Your heart goes out to it and you want to help. But wait, is it just your emotions talking? Or is it the Holy Spirit prompting you? Sometimes as women, since we are such emotional creatures, it can be hard to decipher between our emotions and the leading of the Holy Spirit.

This is where I have found myself for the past month or so. We support a missionary that has a ministry to the blind. For a week in May they hold a camp and need 'guides' to help the campers get around. In one of their prayer letters they shared the need for more guides this year. I began to pray for them that the Lord would provide, while also praying that the Lord would show me if it was something that He wanted me to be involved in and that if it was His will He would work out all the details. For weeks it was on my heart and I didn't have a clear answer. Was the Lord keeping it on my heart because He wanted me to do it, or because He wanted me to keep praying for them? I finally decided that since I didn't feel strongly about it, I would just forget about it.

Then for several days through my Bible reading the term 'blind' kept popping up. If it was just once I would have thought it only a coincidence, but it was MULTIPLE times! It seemed as if maybe the Lord was saying, "I don't want you to forget about this!" So I decided to e-mail the camp director and find out if they even needed guides anymore. My e-mail was very vague (haha!) because at that point I still wasn't 100% sure about it. I simply let him know we were praying for their ministry and inquired if they had a good group of campers and guides signed up for camp, and also if there were any specific needs we could pray for. The next morning I received a reply back thanking me for our prayers and asking prayer for one matter - they still needed one lady guide! I don't think it could have been any more clear as to what my answer from the Lord was!

But then there was the matter of finances. My week would be paid for by the camp, but I didn't have the money or time to come up with the money for a plane ticket. As I had been praying about it, I told the Lord if He wanted me to go He was going to have to provide the way.

I shared with my parents all that had transpired (I hadn't shared anything with them up until this point), and they agreed that it definitely seemed like the Lord was in this. My dad and I then shared the need with my pastor, and of course he was very excited at the opportunity to help our missionary and told me not to worry about the money. I left with instructions to find out all of the details and then he would talk to the men in the church about paying for my ticket, because it would be a missions trip of sort out of our church. Praise the Lord!

I e-mailed the missionary back letting him know I was willing to come, and after filling out an application we spoke on the phone discussing more details about what being a guide entails. It was towards the end of the conversation he proceeded to tell me that not only were they paying for my week at camp, but they were also going to pay for my airfare! Praise the Lord again!!

It's been neat to see God unfold His plan for all of this. I went from not being sure about it, to seeing door after door open up confirming it was indeed His will for me to go!

In one month I'll be on my way to the state of Texas! I know it's going to be a great experience, and am looking forward to seeing what God's going to do!

Hair Update [April]

April: 22 1/2 inches

Here we are a couple months later. I tried to make the pictures as close as possible so we could get a good idea of how much my hair has grown. I got a tiny trim a few weeks ago, but it still looks like it has grown a little bit - it's hard to know for sure. I think the biggest difference is in my layers! I decided to start measuring it to help determine it's growth better. It's getting so long! I'm looking forward to cutting it and having it go towards a good cause!

To Chop or Not To Chop

I tend to go through 'hair phases'. I had short hair for quite a while, and then I decided to grow it out. There have been a couple of times that I went short again, but I didn't like the cut and could help but feel like I looked 16 so I grew it out again. It's a vicious cycle. Haha! Currently my hair is at the longest I think it's ever been and I see all these adorable cuts and want to try short hair again, but I'm scared I won't like it, not to mention it's taken quite a bit of time to get it this long.

But then I became inspired by a post I saw on Instagram. I've decided to continue to grow my hair out and then sometime next year I'm going to chop it off -- I'm going to donate it! What better reason to cut it off, than to give it to an organization that makes wigs for cancer patients. And...if I hate it, I can rest assured that it went for a good cause!

I thought it would be fun to kind of update my hair growth progress until I donate it. So here's how long it is now, and I'll probably update every few months or so. I'll also be researching organizations and deciding/praying about which one I want to give to.

Have you ever donated your hair?

Thankful For Trials?

Just like anyone else, I've had some hard times in life. I shared a very personal story with you not too long ago (thank you for your kind words!), and there have been other things that will probably never be on the blog. Do you know what though? I'm thankful for those times! I know it sounds crazy, but it was during those times that I grew as a person. God used those trials in my life to change me and teach me things. And for that, I will always be thankful!

Ps 119:71 - It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

"Every struggle in your life has shaped you into the person you are today. Be thankful for the hard times; they can only make you stronger." -unknown

What I'm Using: Makeup

1. almay cc cream // 2. mary kay mineral powder // 3. mary kay mineral blush in sunny spice // 4. almay intense i-color bold nudes for blue eyes // 5. ecotools eye brush set // 6. maybelline eyestudio gel eyeliner // 7. cover girl flamed out mascara // 8. revlon nearly naked pressed powder

What I use for makeup can change throughout the year - there aren't many products that I'm 'faithful' to. I like to experiment with different things, and sometimes I change products because my needs change.

Normally I have an oily complexion, but with the change in weather my skin has been very dry. I've had to change my skin care routine, and pretty much stop using powder all together. Right now I'm using almay cc cream as a foundation which I really like, but when I'm able to use powder I LOVE mary kay mineral powder. I've tried so many different ones, and that's by far my favorite. I like to have pressed powder in my purse in case I need to 'powder my nose', and revlon nearly naked is perfect for the job. :)

For my eyes, I'm really liking the trio for blue eyes by almay. Typically I do a smoky eye by using all three colors, but when I don't feel like doing that I'll use the two lightest shades. I don't like using the little applicator that comes with eye shadows, so I have the brush set by ecotools that I really like! In the past I've used a pencil eyeliner, but I was having problems with it leaving it's mark on my upper eyelid by the end of the day...not pretty. So, I picked up this gel eyeliner and I'm pretty happy with it so far although it seems my eye shadow is finding it's way on my eyeliner. Maybe a primer would fix that? Mascara is probably the thing that I change up the most. I usually try something new every time.

Hopefully this wasn't too boring. :) I like seeing what other people use, so I thought it would be fun to share what I'm using right now!

What Makes Me Happy

It's hard to believe that it's already November. Am I right?! The year has absolutely flown by!

As soon as November hits, we start seeing lots of posts, status updates, tweets, etc about things that we're thankful for. Even though we are thankful all year round, there's just something about the month that holds Thanksgiving that stirs up in us a desire to express our gratitude even more.

I was looking up some quotes about thankfulness and I found this one...

:: It's not happy people who are thankful,
but thankful people who are happy ::

How true is this?! I know in my own life, I find that I'm more happy when I'm thankful rather than complaining. Funny how that works!

There are several things that I want to talk about this month that I'm thankful for, but the first one is the Lord. I don't even want to imagine where I'd be without Him. Not only has He saved my soul, but He is with me guiding me and directing me every day. Seriously, how do people go through life without Christ? He's all I need!

He loves me when I'm unlovable. He gives me mercy when I don't deserve it. He gives me grace to get through the hard stuff. He gives me peace that surpasses all understanding. There is such joy in knowing the Lord!

What about you? Do you know the Lord and the joy that He brings?

Seasons

Fall is here! It's time to start breaking out the sweaters and scarves; time to start making soups and all things pumpkin flavored!

I love fall! It's my favorite season, but I also love different aspects of others seasons as well. The newness of each season brings excitement and anticipation for everything it has to offer.

Spring has a special newness about it as everything seems to come back to life after hibernation through winter. Flowers are blooming, trees budding, and gardens begin sprouting evidence of harvest. Summer brings vacations and family reunions that are much anticipated. Days spent soaking up the sun in flip flops (or barefoot!) and sunglasses while the kids are playing in the kiddie pool are wonderful!

Fall comes almost overnight (at least this year it did!). All of a sudden there's a chill in the air, and leaves are changing into glorious shades of red, yellow and orange! Before you know it snow is falling and winter has arrived. Snowmen are built, Christmas trees are decorated, and there's a calmness surrounding the beauty of the snow covered hills. I just love the changing of the seasons. God has it planned so well, doesn't He? The seasons seem to change at just the right time.

As I reflect on a God's perfect timing with the seasons of weather, I can't help but think about His timing in the seasons of life. We all go through times of anticipating what's coming next whether it's finishing school, getting married, having children, or even retiring!

Sometimes we can get impatient and want to hurry through and get to the next phase in life, but if we understand Who is in control we can begin to relax and enjoy the season we're going through. If I find myself becoming impatient I have to remind myself that God's timing is perfect and it will be beautiful in HIS time, not mine. Ecclesiastes 3:11a - "He hath made every thing beautiful in his time:"

I don't know about you, but I don't want to have any regrets of wasting this season I'm in. God has me here for a reason and I want to bring Him glory and honor while I'm here. Let's slow down and cherish the seasons we're in. Even if it's not your favorite; look for the beauty!

Better, Not Bitter

We all have them – situations that happened to us that could have easily made us bitter against God and others. We wonder why God has allowed it into our lives, and then we make a choice. We’re going to become bitter about it, or we’re going to let God use it to make us better. Maybe it’s not in your past. Maybe it’s your present – you’re going through it right now! We’re all different. God has allowed different trials into each of our lives, and they serve a purpose. We need to learn to allow them they make us better, which in turn will bring glory and honor to God.

"But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;" - Philippians 1:12
For quite some time now I’ve been contemplating/praying about sharing my story with you. I've been trying to decide if it's too personal, and do I really want everyone to know? But, there have been so many times I've been encouraged and blessed by others sharing their testimony, and I felt it was time to share mine. You might already know about it, but there’s still quite a few of you who don’t. My purpose in this is not to make anyone feel sorry for me, but rather to encourage you and say, “Look at what God did in my life! This trial wasn’t fun, it wasn’t comfortable, but it changed my life!”
"Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God." - 2 Corinthians 1:4
:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:

If you asked me what I wanted to do when I ‘grew up’, my answer would be (and still is) to get married and have a family. It’s been a dream of mine. Seven years ago, that dream almost became a reality.
We had known each other most of our lives, but because of our age difference we never spent any time with each other.  That all changed the summer I graduated high school. We started hanging out more and getting to know each other.  That fall he moved for a ministry opportunity, but not without asking my dad’s permission to get to know me better. We were officially a couple. Over the next several months our relationship grew and before I knew it he came home for a surprise visit, I went back with him to visit his new home, and we became engaged! I quickly became busy planning a July wedding, but then things started changing. He moved back home, the wedding was postponed, and he was different. Several months went by and we weren’t any closer to setting a new wedding date and I was beginning to feel like something was wrong. When he was younger he had gotten into trouble with drugs and alcohol, but had gotten victory over it. Was his past starting to show up again? I certainly had my suspicions, but I couldn’t accuse without evidence. So I started praying – asking the Lord that if something was going on to bring it out into the light. About a week later I was waiting for him to come over and he called. Instead of saying he was running late and would be there soon, he began to tell me that he had gone back to his old lifestyle. I felt like my heart had been ripped out. The following day he came over to sit down with my parents and I, where we called off the engagement but also told him we still loved him and offered our support for him to get his life back on track. We continued to stay in communication for a little while as I was hoping he would get some help, but I soon felt the Lord’s leading to cut ties with him. If he was going to get help, it needed to be for himself and the Lord and not for anyone else. That was the last time I talked to him.
For the next year I struggled. I cried…A LOT. It was a really low point in my life. But it was in my weakness Christ's strength was magnified. He became my rock. I had a lot of spiritual struggles during this time, but I knew that Christ was the answer and I had to keep going back to Him. Little by little, day by day, I was getting stronger. Christ was changing me.
"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong." - 2 Corinthians 12:9, 10
I often say that it was about a year before I got back to the normal me, but in reality I never did. I came out of that storm a new person. I was stronger in my faith and had a new zeal for serving the Lord. Something that might not have happened if it wasn't for this time in my life. So you see, even though I would never wish this on anyone, I can honestly say I'm thankful for it, because it was for my good and for His glory!
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28

"Among the huge Atlantic-waves of bereavement, poverty, temptation, and reproach, we learn the power of Jehovah, because we feel the littleness of man. Thank God, then, if you have been led by a rough road: it is this which has given you your experience of God's greatness and lovingkindness. Your troubles have enriched you with a wealth of knowledge to be gained by no other means: your trials have been the cleft of the rock in which Jehovah has set you, as he did his servant Moses, that you might behold his glory as it passed by." - Charles Spurgeon
